Below is an overview of general Graduate Division requirements for the master’s program — Plan B. Graduate programs may have additional requirements, contact the program for details.
| Total Credit Requirements |
A minimum of 30 credits is required.
Credits taken under the Credit/No-Credit option (except 699) while under Plan C are not applicable toward degree requirements for Plan B. Except as noted, courses taken under the Credit/No-Credit option will not be applied toward the requirements for the master’s degree. |
| Credits for Courses numbered 600 or above (excluding 699 and Thesis 700) | A minimum of 18 credits is required. |
| Credits for 699 | A maximum of nine credits in directed reading/research (699) may be applied toward degree requirements. |
| Graduate Seminar | A minimum of one graduate seminar in the student’s graduate program or in a related program is required. |

| General Exam | At the discretion of the graduate program, a general exam may be required. If required, all students in Plan B shall take the exam. After the student passes the exam, a program committee is nominated and appointed. Chaired by the student’s program adviser, the committee will guide the student through the rest of the recommended program of study. |
| Culminating Experience | A culminating experience is required. The graduate program will determine the nature of the experience. It may be an examination, a special course, a seminar presentation, a paper, a performance, or some other capstone experience. When a paper or project is required, it is typically offered as part of a 695 course. |
| Final Exam | At the discretion of the graduate program, a final exam may be required. If required, all students in the Plan B shall take the exam. |
