Tropical Medicine Ph.D. Student Jourdan Posner Wins Roche-ARCS Foundation Award in Medicine

IMG_0951Eleven UH Manoa graduate students were honored as the 2015 recipients of the ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) Scholar Awards on May 4, 2015 at the Outrigger Canoe Club, Waikiki. Among those honored was Tropical Medicine PhD student Jourdan Posner, recipient of the new ROCHE-ARCS Scholar Award in Medicine. Jourdan presented a poster on her research entitled “PRR ligands drive the differentiation and activation of B cells subsets important to the germinal center reaction”. Jourdan was accompanied by her parents, Sol and Jeanne Posner. Also representing JABSOM at the dinner were Drs. Vivek Nerurkar, Sandra Chang (Jourdan’s mentor), Mariana Gerschenson, Marla Berry, and Peter Hoffmann. The award was presented by Dr. Gerschenson, a new member of ARCS Honolulu. The award provides Jourdan with scholarship support for the next three years of her PhD training. She will also have the opportunity to network with other ROCHE-ARCS scholars in different regions of the US.  Also recognized at this event was Cell and Molecular Biology graduate student Gregory Fredericks who received the ARCS Scholar Award in Medicine.  Gregory is mentored by Dr. Peter Hoffmann.

ARCS Foundation (Foundation, Inc.) recently announced the funding of the Roche/ARCS Foundation Scholar Award, which supports promising US Scholars pursing doctoral degrees in the life sciences.
