HON 495: Honors Thesis Proposal

CRN 87701, hybrid, T 1:30-4 pm, Kuykendall 305

Focus: WI (Writing Intensive), O (Oral Communication)

Instructor: Dr. Vernadette Gonzalez

The goal of HON 495 is to prepare Honors Program students for their research toward successful completion of their Senior Honors Thesis by providing an overview of the research/creative process. The main goal of the course is to guide students through the process of conceptualizing and writing a proposal for their Senior Honors thesis. Students will work on their proposals through the duration of the course—from topic identification and development of hypothesis or goals, literature review, project design/methods, thesis outline, the drafting and revision process, and the oral presentation.

Through group work, hands-on demonstration, and guest lectures, students will experience what it is like to be a researcher. Specifically, students will learn to review, analyze, discuss, and present (in writing and orally) issues related to their Honors thesis, integrating this with the guidance of a faculty mentor in their discipline.
