Personal Statement
As an undergraduate at Beloit College, I expanded my knowledge and experience related to human molecular interactions and their resulting physiological processes as a major in Biochemistry.  I gained hands on experience with spectroscopy and chromatography techniques as well as protein immunoblotting and biostatistical testing.  I was the recipient of several awards and scholarships associated with outstanding research and professional commitment to the scientific community.  I think that the physiological consequences of tropical diseases, as well as the interactions between drugs and their elicited response from the body are fascinating.  So naturally I wanted to advance my knowledge of tropical diseases and medicine, which drove my application to the Department of Tropical Medicine, Medical Microbiology and Pharmacology.

Education
Beloit College. B.S., 2012 – Biochemistry
University of Hawaii at Hawaii. M.S. candidate, 2012 – present – Tropical Medicine

Experience
2o11 – Research Assistant, Department of Biology & International Union of Biological Sciences Commission for Biological Education, Beloit College
2011-2012 – Teaching Assistant, Departments of Biology and Chemistry, Beloit College
2012 – present – Graduate Research Assistant, Department of Tropical Medicine, Medical Microbiology and Pharmacology, University of Hawaii at Manoa

Interests and Hobbies
I am interested in improving science education in all age groups. Working with BioQUEST, a consortium implemented to support undergraduate biology education, I realized the importance of creating an engaging space for students to develop their scientific inquiries. My hobbies include cooking, hiking, and traveling.
