Student Basic Needs

At some point in your educational journey, you may face basic needs challenges in accessing adequate food, housing, financial or other resources. To ensure that basic needs are met for all UH students, a list of on-campus and community resources is available on the Student Basic Needs website. Additionally, the New UH Virtual Basic Needs Café is now open with live support from 8 pm to midnight Sunday through Thursday.

Entering Research & Creative Work (ERC) Funding for Undergraduate Students ($1,500–$3,000)

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) coordinates and promotes research and creative work opportunities for UH MĀNOA undergraduate students in all disciplines. ERC funding is intended for students early in their academic careers, with little to no research or creative work experience, to get introduced to and explore research and creative work with a faculty mentor. UROP provides up to $1500 per semester and up to $3000 for two consecutive semesters. The Spring 2023 application deadline is 5:00 PM, April 20th. Register to attend information sessions to learn more and learn about other opportunities offered by UROP!

Nominate instructors for Innovation and Impact Showcase

The Innovation & Impact Showcase (IIS) invites nominations of Mānoa faculty, lecturers, instructors, and staff who have taught a course and developed and implemented innovative and high impact teaching practices in the past 2 years (Summer 2021 to Spring 2023). Innovative and impactful teaching practices are those which skillfully integrate effective teaching strategies to engage students in deep learning and the application of knowledge. Deadline: 4/21/2023, 11:59pm.

Recruiting Student Participants for Economic Experiments

Researchers study economic decision-making in a computer lab on campus or online. Earn money just for showing up on time, then earn more based on your decisions during the experiment! Participants make individual or group choices, which determine their payoffs. These experiments are fun and educational, and no prior knowledge of economics is required! Duration: 1 to 3 hours. All experiments have been approved by the Human Studies Program. To participate, register at: https://manoa.hawaii.edu/econexp/. Northeast Asia Economic Forum Emerging Leaders Fellowship Program

The NEAEF 16th Emerging Leaders Fellowship Program is seeking graduate students who can demonstrate potential leadership capabilities and expertise in NEAEF topics and region. Fellows will work with scholars, professionals, policymakers, researchers, and other early-career individuals from the People’s Republic of China, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, the Russian Federation, Chinese Taipei, Pacific Island nations, the United States, and Canada. Application deadline is April 30, 2023. Email emergingleaders@neaef.org for questions.

UH Mānoa Awards Ceremony

Recognizing the dedication and service of UH Mānoa faculty, staff, and students committed to enhancing the University’s mission of excellence. Join us in-person for the 2023 UH Mānoa Awards Ceremony to honor this year’s award winners at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 1 at Kennedy Theatre.  Doors open at 3 p.m. The ceremony will also be livestreamed on the Mānoa Awards page.

$10,000 for Nutritional Study/Research

The Roth-Vegetarian Endowed Scholarship assists students who are studying nutrition or are engaged in study or research directly related to fostering vegetarian nutritional habits and practices. Preference is given to graduate students, but undergraduate seniors may apply. Candidates must be a practicing vegetarian. Award will be between $5000-$10,000 for the 2023-2024 school year. Application is available via the STAR Scholarship site using keyword “Roth”. Deadline is May 7, 2023. 

E. Gordon Grau Coastal and Marine Resource Management and Policy Fellowship

Calling all graduate students interested in management and policy decisions related to Hawaiʻi’s ocean and coastal resources. The Grau Fellowship matches students with host organizations (DAR or CCSR) for two years, 9/1/23-8/31/25. Fellows receive $62,000/year and must complete their degrees (Masters, Ph.D., or J.D) between May 1, 2022, and August 31, 2023, to be eligible. Application is due May 12, 2023. East-West Center (EWC) Student Affiliate Program

The Student Affiliate Program provides an opportunity for UH Mānoa graduate students to engage and live with EWC fellows and scholars in a global community. Benefits include discounted housing on-campus, funding for travel/fieldwork, professional & leadership development opportunities, and more. Applicants must have research interests related to the Asia Pacific region. Application deadline for Fall 2023 is May 15, 2023. 

Residences for Innovative Student Entrepreneurs

Are you looking for student housing this fall? Be the first to live in RISE, a new privately-managed, on-campus student housing facility located at University Ave. and Metcalf St. Open to ALL MAJORS, RISE presents a new way for makers and doers to connect, collaborate, and innovate within an integrated living/learning community managed by PACE. The complex offers in-unit AC, outdoor deck with BBQ grills, secure key fob entry, bike and surfboard storage, a recording studio, makerspaces, meeting rooms and coworking spaces. Presentation Funding for Undergraduate Students ($2000–$5000)

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) coordinates and promotes research and creative work opportunities for UH MĀNOA undergraduate students in all disciplines. UROP invites students who are conducting or have conducted faculty-mentored research or creative work to submit a proposal for Presentation Funding, which provides funds to present their project or work at a local, national, or international conference/event, either in-person or virtually. UROP strongly encourages interested students to apply three months prior to the event. Register to attend information sessions to learn more and learn about other opportunities offered by UROP!
