Memorandum

February 9, 2022
To: Mānoa Cabinet / Mānoa Provost’s Council
From: David Lassner, President
Subject: 2022 University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Presidential Awards for Outstanding Service

The Mānoa Presidential Awards for Outstanding Service recognizes sustained and exceptional leadership of employees and their service to their offices, their departments and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM). Our staff and faculty are an integral part of moving our university forward, and awards provide opportunity to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of your team members. As such, I invite and encourage you and your administrative team to submit a nomination for an outstanding Civil Service, Buildings and Grounds Maintenance, APT and/or Faculty Specialist employee.

One recipient for each category will be selected and will receive a monetary gift of $1,000 and a certificate of recognition. While we have not had a special in-person ceremony at the end of the 2019–20 and 2020–21 academic years due to the pandemic guidance, we are hopeful that some form of in-person recognition will occur for all of the recipients for the three years in early May 2022. However, we will apprise our campus community in April. The award information, eligibility, criteria and nomination form are also posted on the UH Mānoa awards website at Eligibility Requirements. Please share the information with your respective department personnel and encourage them to nominate one of our many outstanding UH Mānoa team members, as there are so many who continue to serve our students and community and improve our campus academic, research, student and administrative operations.

The 2021 recipients were Ms. Lisa Kam, Secretary (CTAHR-Natural Resources and Environmental Management Department) for Civil Service award; Yosuke Jo, Maintenance and Repair Supervisor (Facilities and Grounds) for the Building and Grounds Maintenance award; Ms. Lyn Nakagawa, Head Athletic Trainer (UHM Athletics) for the Administrative, Professional and Technical (APT) award; and Dr. Barbara Bruno, Specialist (SOEST-Hawaiʻi Institute of Geophysics and Planetology) for the Faculty Specialist award.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, March 11, 2022. Please email the completed nomination form to The President’s Award for Outstanding Service Committee, c/o Debra Ishii at debrai@hawaii.edu.

Please contact Ms. Ishii should you need further information.
