Memorandum

To: Mānoa Cabinet, Provost’s Council
From: David Lassner, President
Subject: 2021 University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Presidential Awards for Outstanding Service

The Mānoa Presidential Awards for Outstanding Service recognizes sustained and exceptional leadership of employees and their service to their offices, their departments and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM). Our staff and faculty are an integral part of moving our university forward, and awards provide opportunity to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of your team members. As such, I invite and encourage you and your administrative team to submit a nomination for an outstanding Civil Service, Buildings and Grounds Maintenance, APT and/or Faculty Specialist employee.

One recipient for each category will be selected and will receive a monetary gift of $1,000 and a certificate of recognition. Under the current pandemic related guidance, we will not be able to have a special in-person ceremony at the end of the academic year. However, we will recognize recipients in an appropriate manner. The award information, eligibility, criteria and nomination form are also posted on the Mānoa President’s Office website at Eligibility Requirements. Please share the information with your respective department personnel and encourage them to nominate one of our many outstanding UH Mānoa team members, as there are many who continue to serve our students and community and sustain operations during this pandemic.

The 2020 recipients were Ms. Angel Asuncion (Facilities and Grounds) for the Civil Service award; Ms. Loree Shiroma for the Buildings and Grounds Maintenance award; Mr. William Unruh (Institute for Astronomy) for the Administrative, Professional and Technical (APT) award; and Mr. James Potemra (Hawaiʻi Institute of Geophysics and Planetology) for the Faculty Specialist award.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, March 26, 2021. Please email the completed nomination form to:
