Aloha! This is our Giving Tuesday information page. Giving Tuesday will take place on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. For 24 hours, with the help of the University of Hawaii Foundation, we will be fundraising for this cause.
What is this about?
This Giving Tuesday, Lyon is teaming up with UH Foundation to fundraise for the Lyon Arboretum Title I Field Trip Subsidy program.
Title I schools are schools that serve a high percentage of low-income families. A field trip to Lyon costs only $7, but for many Title I schools, that cost is prohibitive. We are asking for the support of our community to build up our Title I Field Trip Subsidy fund. This fund allows us to waive the fees for Title I schools to come to the Arboretum! By giving $7, you can make it possible for a Title I student to come on a field trip to Lyon. If you are able to give as much as $175, you gift a Lyon field trip to an entire classroom of Title I students!
Why field trips?
Field trips bring classroom topics to life and create lasting memories. Field trips also serve Lyon’s conservation mission. By getting our keiki out in nature and introducing them to the unique plants on our grounds, we hope to inspire them to mālama ʻaina.What schools have you served?
In the past, we have served many Title I schools, including Palolo Elementary, Benjamin Parker Elementary, Kapalama Elementary, Pu’uhale, Lincoln, Barbers Point, Mauka Lani, Kalihi Kai, Makaha, Ka’ala, Queen Ka’ahumanu, Pearl City, Blanche Pope, Hau’ula Elementary School, and more!
How much does it cost?
We are asking our community to give what you can. If you can spare it, $7 will allow one student to visit Lyon. If you are able to give more, a gift of $175 will allow an entire classroom of 25 students to visit Lyon.
