Apply to Be a New Rainbow Warrior Peer Leader
The Office of the Vice Provost for Student Success is recruiting students to serve as Peer Leaders for our 2023-2024 New Student Orientation and Ānuenue Connection Program. New Rainbow Warrior (NRW) Peer Leaders are integral to welcoming and connecting our new students to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, and we need students like YOU. Be a part of this UHM-azing opportunity to share your UH Mānoa pride and have a meaningful experience. You will also receive a $2,000 stipend. The deadline to apply is Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. HST.
Recruiting Student Participants for Economic Experiments
Researchers study economic decision-making in a computer lab on campus or online. Earn money just for showing up on time, then earn more based on your decisions during the experiment! Participants make individual or group choices, which determine their payoffs. These experiments are fun and educational, and no prior knowledge of economics is required! Duration: 1 to 3 hours. All experiments have been approved by the Human Studies Program. To participate, register at: https://manoa.hawaii.edu/econexp/. Natural Language Processing and AI Summer Research Experience Application
Are you passionate about finding solutions to climate change? Do you want to be at the forefront of cutting-edge technology that can communicate to the world about the climate crisis? Join the Change HI Summer Research Project! They’re looking for college students who want to develop skills in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning while researching climate change. Apply for the 2023 Change HI Summer Research Program taking place at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, May 22–June 30. The funded research opportunity, supported by the UH EPSCoR Change HI program, is open to undergraduate students of all majors enrolled in the UH system. Fill in the following application form by April 28th, 2023.
Hawai‘i Pacific Foundation Doctoral Research Award
The Hawai‘i Pacific Foundation Doctoral Research Award at the East-West Center provides up to $20,000 to promote educational access for Native Hawaiians or support outstanding doctoral students to conduct research advancing commitment/contribution to the study of issues important to the Native Hawaiian community. Funds support educational, living, and research expenses for up to six months. Residency at the East-West Center is highly encouraged. Deadline is May 15th.
Funding for Research in Japan
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science is the largest funding agency for academic research in Japan. They provide fellowships for PhD students and postdoctorates in all fields of research – social science, humanities, and science. There are three application deadlines each year, the upcoming deadline is June 2, 2023.
Fulbright Application is Open
If you’re interested in pursuing a graduate degree, researching, or teaching English abroad while building relations among nations, apply for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program! Applications for 2024-2025 are now open! Join the U.S. government’s flagship international academic exchange program. UH Mānoa applicants must submit all materials by September 10, 2023. Campus interviews will then be scheduled before the national deadline.

We encourage you to complete the ADVANCE Kaulike equity survey for our campus, or participate in a focus group. The goal of ADVANCE sponsored research is to support organizational change for gender equity and diversity in STEM academic professions. The survey will take about 15-20 minutes to complete.
Presentation Funding for Undergraduate Students ($2000–$5000)
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) coordinates and promotes research and creative work opportunities for UH MĀNOA undergraduate students in all disciplines. UROP invites students who are conducting or have conducted faculty-mentored research or creative work to submit a proposal for Presentation Funding, which provides funds to present their project or work at a local, national, or international conference/event, either in-person or virtually. UROP strongly encourages interested students to apply three months prior to the event. Register to attend information sessions to learn more and learn about other opportunities offered by UROP!
