One thing you wish you knew before starting at UHM?
One thing that I wish I knew before starting my journey at UH Manoa is how accessible a lot of the resources are. I went into UH not using any of the sources available, for instance Hamilton Library's study rooms, the Warrior Rec Center, Manoa One Search, and many more. It wasn't until the end of my Sophmore year that I began using these resoucres and honestly it was a game changer that made both my academic and personal journey much, much easier!

One piece advice your parents gave to you before you left for college?
Try to make a balance ASAP (with school, work, social life, etc.) before starting. When I was a freshman, I wanted to do everything at once because I was excited to leave and come to a new place - and that kinda messed up my schedule until I got the hang of it. Make some kind of "normal" plan that you can fall back on, and then you have more freedom to do stuff in your free time without stressing too much.
Also, stay in contact with professors you like, even after the class is done. An island is a pretty small world and you never know what connections you can make in the long run.

One of my favorite classes I’ve taken so far is video production. The Digital Studios on campus is really cool, and having class in there is like being in an actual newsroom. One Piece of Advice You'd Give to Students?
One piece of advice I would give students is to find your community! As everyone is new at some point, do not be afarid to attend clubs, meetings, and events solo because it may be an opportunity to create new friendships! As thrilling as starting at a new university is, it is essential to find those to share the memories with, good and bad.
Favorite place on campus?
Other than Hale Aloha Cafe for a wide variety of selections, I love eating at Ba-Le! They have pho for colder days and yummy pad thai cups, which are also my favories, but my favorite thing to get is a pick-me-up Vietnamese coffee and a banh mi sandwich in between classes.

Favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is Campus Center. You will always be able to find something going on. It is great area to grab some food, do homework, and chat with friends. There are so many food options around there including starbucks, jamba, and stir fresh. I also love it because of the big giant tree in the middle. During Christmas time UH will string lights around the tree and its super pretty. The Rec center is also at campus center. It's a great place to get a good workout in and also take super fun fitness classes.
Favorite class and professor?
My favorite class I took was Human Anatomy & Physiology with Dr. Higa. He is a great professor and truly knows how to make sure all of his students understand the material. Along with him being a good professor, the class is very interesting as well. For being a Kinesiology major, this class was super important for me and I was eager to learn. For any incoming health science majors, look forward to taking his class!

Grades are important as a college student, but the actual knowledge we obtain and the connections we build through our college journey is much more important. These life changing experiences are unique to each individual and nobody can steal it from us.
