  • September 13 by 4:00 p.m. (HST): Deadline to:
    • Drop a course without a “W” grade
    • Drop a course for 50% tuition refund
    • Submit UH Employee tuition waivers
  • September 14 – October 31: Restricted Withdrawal period (with “W” grade)
  • September 15 to December 1: Fall 2022 Commencement: Online registration begins

Mānoa Opportunities

UH Thrift Shop Reopens

The UH Thrift Shop is now open at Hemenway 101, near Campus Center. The Women’s Campus Club awards grants throughout the University system from Thrift Shop proceeds. Visit them during their store hours: Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 12pm–2pm. Last Sunday of the month is their half-price sale. Items include kitchen appliances, household, Asian ware, vintage Corningware, China, Art, jewelry, clothing, Aloha shirts, books, and other treasures. Volunteers are welcome!

New Entering Research & Creative Work (ERC) Funding for Undergraduate Students ($1,500–$3,000)

UROP coordinates and promotes research and creative work opportunities for UH Mānoa undergraduate students in all disciplines. UROP invites students early in their academic careers to submit a proposal for ERC Funding, a brand new opportunity for students to explore research and creative work with a faculty mentor via financial support from UROP. UROP provides up to $1500 per semester and up to $3000 for two consecutive semesters. The Fall deadline is 5:00 PM, October 20th. Register to attend information sessions or learn about other opportunities offered by UROP!

Project Funding for Undergraduate Students ($5,000-$10,000): Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

UROP coordinates and promotes research and creative work opportunities for UH Mānoa undergraduate students in all disciplines. UROP invites students conducting or planning to conduct faculty-mentored research or creative work to submit a proposal for Project Funding, which provides funds to cover materials, supplies, travel, hourly stipend, and other project-related costs. The Fall deadline is 5:00 PM, October 10th. Register to attend information sessions or learn about other opportunities offered by UROP!

Presentation Funding for Undergraduate Students ($2000-$5000)

UROP coordinates and promotes research and creative work opportunities for UH Mānoa undergraduate students in all disciplines. UROP invites students who are conducting or have conducted faculty-mentored research or creative work to submit a proposal for Presentation Funding, which provides funds to present their project or perform at a local, national, or international conference/event, in-person or virtually. UROP strongly encourages interested students to apply three months prior to the event. Register to attend information sessions or learn about other opportunities offered by UROP!

Fellowships, Scholarships, & Internships

American Association of University Women (AAUW) Educational Funding and Awards

One of the largest sources of funding for graduate women, AAUW provides significant financial opportunities in a wide range of disciplines. Application deadlines vary by award and range between November 1-December 1, 2022.

Mirikitani Outstanding Dissertation Award 2022-2023

The Clifford K. Mirikitani & John M. Mirikitani Outstanding Dissertation Award recognizes exceptional work by doctoral students toward an outstanding dissertation with hopes to encourage and recognize extraordinary scholarly research. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Graduate Division program and have submitted Form II to Graduate Division. Applications require an endorsement by the dissertation committee chair. For details and to apply as a nominee, visit the STAR Scholarship site and use keyword “Mirikitani Dissertation”. Application deadline is October 15, 2022. Recommendations are due October 22, 2022.

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program

Apply for this five-year fellowship that supports graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and math. Funding is provided for three of the fellowship years totaling over $100,000. Application deadlines vary by discipline and range between October 17-21, 2022. The APIA/AANAPISI Scholarship application is now open!

APIA Scholars provides scholarships to underserved Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) Students, with a special focus on those who live at or below the poverty line; are their first in their families to attend college; are representative of the APIA community’s diversity. Applications open September 7, 2022 and the application deadline is January 19, 2023, at 5PM Eastern.
