Mānoa Opportunities
Design the Catalog Cover Contest
Students: You can win $500 by designing the next Mānoa Catalog cover. Create a visually exciting catalog design and main graphic for the annual general catalog for University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Prepare “working” drafts of the design for approval by the Catalog Committee. Payment of $500 will be sent upon completion of the project for the final design. Submissions will be reviewed by the Mānoa Catalog Committee and they will notify a finalist to submit final files. All final submissions will become the property of the Mānoa Catalog Office. The deadline to submit entries is Monday, January 30.
UH IfA Summer Research Experience for Undergrads (REU)
The Institute for Astronomy (IfA) expects to offer research internships for the summer of 2022. These paid 10-week internships provide a stipend of $6,000 and the opportunity to carry out scientific research and instrument development while working with some of the best astronomers in the world. The program includes training on scientific writing and professional presentations, as well as the possibility of participating in observations using telescopes on Maunakea. Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships – Southeast Asia
U.S. citizen or permanent resident full-time graduate and undergraduate students studying an eligible Southeast Asian language with area studies in any degree program may apply for the 2023–2024 FLAS Fellowship. Fellowship package includes a $20,000 stipend for graduate students and $5,000 stipend for undergraduates; and tuition assistance. Summer 2023 fellowships are also available. Financial Support for Graduate Studies/Research in Chinese Culture
The Chun Ku & Soo Yong Huang Foundation Fund promotes the study of and interest in Chinese culture. Financially supporting graduate students studying fields of importance to life and development in China and who have service in China as their goal; award is for the 2023-2024 school year. Applicants must be in a Graduate Division program and in good academic standing. Search the STAR Scholarship site using keywords “Huang Foundation” to apply. Submission deadline is February 15, 2023.
Graduate Scholarship for Social Justice & Community Building
The Semura Graduate Student Scholarship is open to full-time graduate students enrolled in any Graduate Division program and in good academic standing. Applicants must be able to demonstrate commitment, research, and advocacy toward social justice and/or intercultural communications, and potential to build community (locally or globally). Scholarship is for the 2023–2024 academic year. Applications are available via the STAR Scholarship site using keyword “Semura”. Deadline to apply is February 15, 2023.
Roth-Vegetarian Endowed Scholarship
The Roth-Vegetarian Endowed Scholarship assists students who are studying nutrition or are engaged in study or research directly related to fostering vegetarian nutritional habits and practices. Preference will be given to graduate students, however, undergraduate seniors may also apply. Candidates must be a practicing vegetarian. Award is for the 2023-2024 school year. Application is available via the STAR Scholarship site using keyword “Roth”. Deadline is February 15, 2023.
