Miquela Ibrao is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health. Her research is rooted in her background as a descendant of the Laguna Pueblo and Quechan Nations. She received his PhD from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Office of Public Health Studies where she worked with the Department of Geriatric Medicine on their Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program grant. She completed a dual MSW/MPH at Washington University in St. Louis where she was a Buder Center for American Indian scholar. During her time at Washington University in St. Louis, she helped launch 2 Community-Based Participatory Research projects in collaboration with the local Indigenous community. She also worked on a national policy research team with the National Congress of American Indians. As a Bachelors Student, she worked in Washington, D.C. as a Washington Internship for Native Students intern. Her current work draws on community-based research methodologies to enhance Indigenous and kūpuna health, reflecting her commitment to improve the well-being of Indigenous communities through collaborative and culturally sensitive approaches.
