The provost is the chief academic officer for the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and deputy to the UH president. The Provost is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources, and the accomplishment of the university’s mission, across all aspects of education, research, student success, enrollment management, service, extension and  outreach. Reporting to the Provost are the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Student Affairs, and the Office of Research, as well as all academic deans and directors.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs oversees planning, developing, organizing, directing and evaluating academic programs, policies, procedures and guidelines. In addition, the office develops and oversees faculty promotion and tenure processes.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research oversees most organized research units on campus. The provost serves as the campus representative for research with individuals, groups and agencies working to enhance UH Mānoa’s research programs and capabilities.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Students is responsible for the direction and coordination of student services, including co-curricular activities, housing, counseling and career guidance, employment, and health.
