Our Mission

The College of Natural Sciences Student Academic Success Center empowers students to engage with the UH Mānoa community and author individualized plans for personal success.

 

Student Learning Outcomes

Through working with academic advisors in CNS, SASC students will be able to:

  • Engage in co-curricular activities to fulfill their interests both in and out of the classroom.
  • Seek help when needed by identifying a challenge, problem-solving and implementing the solution through the utilization of campus and community resources to support their success.
  • Make connections to how their degree relates to their personal and professional goals.
  • Prepare an academic plan that incorporates their required coursework for degree completion and additional experiences necessary for their future career pursuits.

In addition, students will build life-long connections to the University of Hawai‘i community, including students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Advisor Commitments

  • Provide a positive and respectful environment
  • Maintain confidentiality pursuant to FERPA Explain academic policies and procedures
  • Assist in identifying and utilizing university resources
  • Teach the value of a liberal arts education
  • Collaborate on educational planning to address academic and professional goals
  • Encourage the development of skills necessary to attain work-life-balance
  • Guide exploration and selection of co- curricular activities

Student Responsibilities

  • Check your @hawaii.edu email regularly
  • Come to appointments early and notify SASC if canceling or rescheduling ASAP
  • Seek advising on a regular basis
  • Be an active participant in identifying your educational goals and creating an academic plan
  • Come to academic appointments with questions and/or topics for discussion Utilize campus resources such as STAR, Catalog, SECE, etc.
  • Take responsibility for your actions
