Up and Away on the Parking Structure

Graduate in cap and gown in front of a balloon mural at the parking structure

Did you notice the latest balloon mural on the roof of the lower parking structure by the elevators? In late March, UHM Commuter Services department partnered again with local artists Justin Vasconcellos and Wendell Tabangcura to paint a unique balloon mural, just in time for graduation photos. These are the same artists who volunteered their time earlier this year to paint the 70-foot mural on the parking structure.

“This balloon mural is such a fun and creative backdrop to take photos for graduation and any occasion,” said Tristan Setzer, a senior majoring in communications. “I love the way that the parking structure looks and feels more inviting and welcoming for everyone.”

Commuter Services encourages anyone passing by the parking structure, especially graduates to stop by, pose and snap a photo. Create memories of yourself taking off in the next chapter of your life! #liftoffatUHM

This is one of the high-impact, low-cost projects that Commuter Services is implementing at the parking structure. Other projects include the Gecko Deco service project, installation of LED lights with backup batteries, and new slip-resistant paint by the elevators and stairwells.
