At the Leading with Excellence Conference 2022, Professor Noelani Goodyear-Kaopua presented a workshop titled “Diversifying your Department.” The workshop probes attendees to consider the demographic of their Department and discusses how committing to diversify a unit’s faculty is an important first step, but how does a department or school fulfill that promise? In the presentation, attendees explored the complex undertaking of recruiting and retaining diverse faculty members. This includes: strategies for recruitment; strategies for supporting new hires; and ways to foster a community that values diversity in your unit. They also discussed the Search Advocate initiative and how to best utilize the program in recruitments.
