The Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Excellence (OVPAE) ensures excellence in teaching and learning endeavors across University of Hawai’i at Mānoa (UHM) academic programs by working with and through faculty and executive management to plan, develop, coordinate, improve and manage a dynamic and responsive portfolio of academic programs. This includes assisting with recruiting, retaining, and supporting a diverse, world-class faculty who demonstrate excellence in teaching, research, and service. Our strategies include iterative improvements through review of academic programs, assessment of outcomes, professional development, instructional support, and initiatives aligned to the university’s strategic goals. The OVPAE also includes select campus-wide academic programs: the University Honors Program, Interdisciplinary Studies, and all three ROTCs (Air Force, Army and Navy).
OVPAE acknowledges that the ‘āina on which we live and work is part of the larger territory recognized by Indigenous Hawaiians as their ancestral grandmother, Papahānaumoku. We also recognize that Queen Lili‘uokalani yielded the Hawaiian Kingdom and these territories under duress and protest to the United States to avoid the bloodshed of her people. We seek to support the varied strategies that the Indigenous peoples of Hawai‘i are using to protect their land and their communities, and commit to dedicating time and resources to working in solidarity.
