College-Level New Faculty Orientation
Series description
Aʻo Aku, Aʻo Mai is a college-wide introduction to the unit, campus, and community culture. Through monthly meetings, new faculty will meet key personnel from the campus and college, in addition to learning about available resources. The sessions will also provide opportunities for new faculty to meet and share experiences with colleagues from across the college.
Series Overview
Relating to the campus (including their college), participants will:
- learn about the history of UHM, the unit (college/school), Mānoa, and Hawai‘i,
- be introduced to the various campus units and key personnel within the units (human resources, fiscal, academic affairs, student affairs, and facilities), and
- explore their role as an instructor, advisor, mentee, and researcher.
Relating to the community, participants will:
- explore the history and culture of the major student groups on campus, and
- identify community groups related to their field or research.
Relating to students, participants will:
- understand learning and communication styles of students, and
- explore available Mānoa instructional support services, and
- explore various instructional practices for the classroom, labs, and work environments.
