If you believe you were incorrectly cited for a parking violation while in compliance with UHM Parking rules and regulations, you may submit an online appeal within fifteen (15) calendar days of the citation issue date, along with documentation for your claim.
For an appeal to be successful, there must be substantial and valid evidence that the offense in question did not occur or that there were extenuating circumstances that should be considered.
The following are generally not considered valid reasons for appeal, and would NOT be considered extenuating circumstances:
- I didn’t know the rules.
- Other cars did (or often do) the same thing.
- It was only for a short time.
- I was running late.
- I didn’t have the means to pay.
- There was no parking anywhere else.
- There was someone in the car.
- I left a note on my dash.
- I had my hazard lights on.
- I wasn’t taking anyone’s space.
- I lent my car to someone else and they got cited
Appeals may not be filed in person at the Parking Office in Queen Lili’uokalani Center or via telephone.
Student appellants who provide deliberately false or misleading information will be immediately referred to the Office of Student Conduct.
NOTE: During the appeals process, the citation remains outstanding. Submitting an appeal does not necessarily mean that the citation will be canceled. You should receive notice of the Appeals Officer’s decision within approximately two weeks of the presentation of your appeal.
