Undergraduate Showcase Recap: Fall 2024
The semesterly Undergraduate Showcase is an opportunity for UHM undergraduate students to present the results of their mentored research and creative work projects to their peers, faculty, and the general public. UROP partners with the Honors Program to hold these events during each Fall and Spring semester to provide opportunities for undergraduates to practice their presentation skills and solicit feedback on their projects.
Fall 2024 Showcase
The Fall 2024 Undergraduate Showcase was held over Zoom on December 13, 2024 and featured 53 students (33 students as individual presenters and 20 students in 10 groups) giving 43 oral presentations. Of these, 33 (77 percent) were UROP-funded students. Presentations included “Effects of Arginine on Protein Synthesis Rates of Ovine Satellite Cells” by Abigail Ana; “Copilot’s Code Generation and Licensing Analysis: A Comprehensive Evaluation of Using Artificial Intelligence within Programing” by Jenny Brown; “Regenerative Tourism: Japanese Tourists’ Awareness and Perception of ‘Mālama’” by Komaki Kakinuma and Rie Tsuchida; and “Playfully Proficient: Enhancing Social Skill Acquisition in Young Children with Autism Through Play-Based Intervention” by Jhennai Felipe.
UROP Project funding recipient Riku Omata (Finance major) presented his project, “Analyzing Evasion of Financial Regulations using Cryptocurrencies,” and said, “Reflecting on my recent presentation experience, I gained several valuable insights. Tailoring content to the audience’s interests and knowledge level significantly enhances engagement and comprehension. Presenting information clearly and succinctly is vital for maintaining attention and ensuring the message is effectively communicated. Incorporating relevant visuals, such as charts and images, reinforces key points and makes the presentation more memorable. Rehearsing the presentation multiple times increases confidence and allows for smoother delivery, reducing anxiety. Anticipating potential questions and preparing responses enables effective engagement with the audience during Q&A sessions. These experiences have enhanced my presentation skills, making me more adept at delivering information in an engaging and impactful manner.”
