  • Hawaiʻi Agricultural Experiment Station (HAES): Founded before the College of Hawaiʻi in 1901, the federally sponsored Hawaiʻi Agricultural Experiment Station merged with the University’s College of Applied Sciences, which included Agriculture, on 1 July 1929.

  • Romanzo Adams Social Research Laboratory (RASRL): The Laboratory, which existed under various names, began under the direction of Dr. Romanzo Adams, first professor of sociology at UH, in the early 1920s. During World War II, the Board of Regents renamed it the War Research Laboratory; during the war, it worked with the US Army martial law government. The laboratory was eventually renamed in honor of Romanzo Adams, who died in 1942. The Laboratory existed until 1964, when it was discontinued and folded into Social Science Research Institute. The records include extensive files on race relations, cultural organizations, social problems, and include examples of student papers written on various sociological phenomena in Hawaiʻi from the mid-1920s through the late 1960s.
