The Singing Flute Concert

Flutist Ulla Suokko will be in Hawaii for a residency, including master classes, workshops and lessons, plus a performance at Orvis Auditorium. The residency is sponsored by Kanikapila Flute Company.

October 8, 3:30 – 7:00 p.m – Flute master class (UHM Music Department room 212)
October 9, 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. – The Complete Flutist (Musicians Association of Hawaii)
October 9, 6:15  – 8:30 p.m. – Flute Choir Reading / Potluck (Musicians Association of Hawaii)
October 14, 5:00 p.m. – The Singing Flute Concert (Orvis Auditorium) [time correction]

Tickets for the concert at Orvis Auditorium are $10 general admission (age 18+), students free.

About Ulla Suokko (from ullasuokko.com)

The Finnish flutist Ulla Suokko enjoys a very versatile interntional career and has performed in many of the important scenes of the world. She made her official New York debut in Carnegie Hall as the winner of Artists International competition, and has offered concerts in many European countries, the United States, Mongolia, Japan, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Peru, Bolivia. She received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in the famed The Juilliard School in New York, her thesis being Music and Rhetoric in the Baroque.

For a few years already she has been living in Peru and has been part of the not for profit cultural association ERART, offering concerts, workshops and teacher trainings. She has also performed in the most important concert halls of Lima, including Gran Teatro Nacional and the Teatro Municipal, and she has participated in many festivals such as, Contemporary Music Festival of Lima, Festival of Winds in Cusco, and Festival of Scenic Arts El Arte de Sol in Máncora.

At the moment she is traveling giving concerts and workshops all over the world, and working with various organizations to create opportunities for music and arts education for children. She offers master classes for musicians and workshops of different kinds for personal transformation, success and happiness.

Performance is eligible for Mus 199 concert attendance credit.
