Shamisen, Voice and Shakuhachi –– New Music for Old Instruments

Honjo Hidetaro, Honjo Hidejiro, Christopher Yohmei Blasdel, Mika Kimula

This performance will feature one of Japan’s top shamisen masters, Hidetarō Honjō and his star student, Hidejirō Honjō. Local musicians Christopher Yohmei Blasdel (shakuhachi) and Mika Kimula (voice) will join them for the concert at Orvis Auditorium. The program will feature a variety of contemporary compositions that showcase the depth and capabilities of both the instruments and the players in compositions by both Japanese and western composers.

Tickets: $14/$10. UHM music majors $5

Music students: This concert is eligible for Mus 199 recital attendance credit.
