The UH Contemporary Music Ensemble presents an evening of Auras & Aleatory. The pieces on the program alternate between those that explore lush textures, such as John Luther Adams’s The Light Within for ensemble and electronics, and those that incorporate elements of chance and improvisation, such as Pamela Z’s Twenty Answers, in which performers use Magic 8 Balls to determine what music is played. Also on the program is Andy Akiho’s Portal, which will be performed by a one-of-a-kind ensemble including ʻukulele, erhu (Chinese fiddle), taiko drums, kulintang (Southeast Asian gongs) and western instruments.
Featured guest artist Christopher Yohmei Blasdel (shakuhachi) will join composer Jun Yi Chow on stage in a performance of Chow’s Becoming the Wind.
