Albert Simone Presidential Records

President’s Office Albert Simone Records, 1978-1992

Manuscript A2001:014

Scope Note

Dr. Albert J. Simone served as the President of the University of Hawaiʻi System and Chancellor of the Mānoa campus from 1984 until 1992. This collection contains the entirety of his files in those offices, as well as some additional materials, such as records of the Holo Holo Investigation dating from 1982 (box 51).

The bulk of the files, boxes 1-46, are ordered alphabetically. These boxes were numbered at the time of the first accession of Simone papers to the UH Archives. Boxes 47-51 contain personal materials and files on the UH Budget, as well as the Holo Holo Investigation. Boxes 52-79 are organized into the following categories:

  • University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM)
  • Board of Regents (BOR)
  • United States Government (USG)
  • State Government (SG)
  • General (GEN)

Within each category, the files are arranged alphabetically. Simone’s speeches fill two boxes 80 and 81; these were originally collected in the Archives as an artificial collection and later transferred to Simone’s Presidential records.

The final box contains campus reorganization files, 1982-1987, and includes materials from Simone’s earlier position as Vice President for Academic Affairs.
