An Evening of Nagauta Music with an ensemble led by shamisen master Kineya Katsukuni.
Kineya Katsukuni, Senior Nagauta shamisen master of the Katsuha School of Nagauta Music based in Tokyo, is known for his refined and highly technical artistic playing skills as a lead Nagauta shamisen musician for several top ranking Kabuki actors such as, Bando Tamasaburo and Nakamura Kanzaburo.
He returns to Hawai‘i with an ensemble of top ranked musicians for presentations at the UHM Music Department, including a lecture/demonstration (February 17, 4:00 p.m., Room 36) and performance (Feb 18, 7:30 p.m., Orvis Auditorium). Both events are free admission.
