The Veterans Healing Veterans Medical Access and Scholarship Program (VHVMASP)

VHVMASP provides funding for the medical education of the two highest ranking Veterans entering into each covered medical school. The Veterans receive financial support in exchange for four years of full-time service at a VA facility after residency. Support covers tuition, books and equipment, fees, two away rotations at a VA facility during senior year and a monthly stipend. For more information, click here.

The Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) – Veteran Affairs

The VA Health Professions Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to medical and dental students. The Veterans receive financial support in exchange for full-time VA employment in the occupation that the scholarship was awarded for. VA may give preference to Veteran applicants. The HPSP is also offered for students receiving education or training in Masters of Physician Assistant Studies, Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, and Master’s of Science in Nursing for Mental Health. For more information, click here.

The Specialty Education Loan Repayment Program (SELRP)

SELRP is a loan repayment program targeted towards physician residents. Its purpose is to provide VA with medical specialists in geographic areas and VA facilities where those specialties are needed. Applicants can apply right after the residency match or up to two years before completion of the residency. The program can repay up to $160,000 of education loans total; each year of service at a VA facility qualifies for $40,000 in loan repayment, with a minimum of two years of service required.
