In his essay, “J-pop: from the ideology of creativity to DiY music culture” (Mōri 2009), Dr. Mōri examined the complicit relation between the popularity of J- pop and neo-liberalist ideology of “creativity” in the 2000s. Based on the argument in the essay, he revisits the ideology of creativity to examine the latest J-pop music in the 2010s, in particular, after the arrival of vocaloid culture. He also critically discusses post-capitalist sentiments and DIY culture which have appeared in contemporary digital music culture in Japan.
