Transcript Requirements

Official transcripts are required for all Exchange and Visiting Student programs at UHM. Please find the guidelines for submitting transcripts to UHM below.

Undergraduate Applicants

Please note that there are minimum requirements for admission to UH Mānoa and no exceptions can be made for Exchange/Visiting Students. Your transcript will help the Admissions Office to identify if you meet these requirements. Please see the table below for more information.

Are students required to complete a certain number of credits before they can apply for the program? Yes, students must complete at least 24 transferable semester credits by the time of application, as per UH Manoa Admissions standards. Please note that some courses (e.g., English language/composition, religious doctrine, remedial/technical, field studies, internships) may not count towards this requirement.
Is there a minimum GPA for admission into the program? Yes, a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5/4.0 is required. Only courses graded on an A-F or 1-100 scale are considered. Pass/Fail or Credit/Non-Credit courses and non-transferable courses (e.g., English language/composition, religious doctrine, remedial/technical, field studies, internships) are excluded from GPA calculation. Applicants must also have at least 24 credits to calculate their GPA. If this requirement is not met, the application will not be processed.
What if I’ve studied at another college or university? If you have transferred credits from other institutions, including study abroad programs, transcripts from those institutions are required. These transcripts must be sent directly to our office by the issuing institutions. We cannot accept transcripts from your institution on behalf of another institution.
Can I ask UHM Admissions to review my transcript before completing my application? Yes, if you are unsure about whether you meet the minimum requirements, you can email your transcript to inbound@hawaii.edu. We will review it with the Admissions Office to determine if you meet the minimum GPA and credit requirements for admission.

Transcript Submission Process for Exchange & Hoakipa Visiting Students

To prevent fraud, official transcripts must be submitted to your home university exchange office in their original, sealed envelope or via an official electronic portal. Your exchange office will then submit your transcript to us as part of the application process. If the transcript appears unofficial or tampered with, we may request an official transcript be mailed directly to our office.

Transcript Submission Process for Independent Visiting Students

Independent Visiting Students must have their official transcript(s) sent by mail or via a certified digital platform such as eQuals. If sent by mail, transcripts must be sent in their original, sealed envelope to be considered official.

Please note that there are minimum requirements for admission to UHM and no exceptions can be made for Exchange/Visiting Students. These documents will help the Admissions Office to identify if you meet these requirements. Please see the table below for more information.

Where should my transcripts and degree certificates be mailed? Mail to: Vinnie Burns, Mānoa International Exchange (MIX), University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, 2600 Campus Road, QLC 206, Honolulu, HI 96822, USA

Please note that each institution should only send documents that they are responsible for issuing. They should not send documents issued by other institutions (e.g. if your undergraduate program was at a different university), unless these documents are kept in the original, sealed envelope from the issuing institution. Any loose documents from other institutions will not be considered valid.

You may also mail your transcripts and degree certificates on your own. However, please make sure to keep all of the documents in their original, sealed envelopes from the issuing institution. These envelopes cannot be opened, otherwise, they will not be considered valid.

Can my home university or I send transcripts or degree certificates by email? Yes, it is also possible to send these documents digitally. The following methods are currently accepted:

  1. Documents issued digitally to inbound@hawaii.edu via a certified digital platform, such as eQuals, in a format that would allow the MIX Office to download the transcript from an online portal.
  2. Documents sent by email to inbound@hawaii.edu, but only if sent directly by the issuing institution’s Registrar’s Office, exchange office, or a similar office that has authority over transcripts and degree certificates.
Are notarized copies accepted? Yes, notarized copies from the issuing institution are accepted if sent directly by that institution. Documents notarized by a different institution will not be valid.
What if English is not the primary language of instruction at my current or previous institutions? If English is not the primary language of instruction, then you will need to provide an official copy of the documents in the native language and an official translation in English.
What if I have participated in a short-term study abroad program? Is the transcript from the institution I studied at required? Yes, if credits from the study abroad program were transferred to your home institution, you must provide those transcripts.
