Physical Training
Detachment 175 doesn’t mess around when it comes to working out! Physical Training (PT) is conducted Tuesday and Thursday, most frequently at the University of Hawai’i’s Athletic Facilities. Cadets are expected to attend both sessions each week, and PT activities vary between cardio, calisthenics, practical military fitness, resistance training, and sports. Our PT will prepare you for the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) all cadets must pass each semester and more importantly reach your own physical fitness goals.
The Department of the Air Force wants a culture of fitness and requires cadets to keep their bodies in shape. At least twice a year cadets take a PFA (Physical Fitness Assessment). The PFA consists of 1 minute sit-ups, 1 minute push-ups and a 1.5 mile run. The test is administered in one session and there will be a short break between each activity. There are different standards for each gender and age group. A cadet’s score is composed of their performance in those three components. Minimum passing score is 75% with a passing score in all three individual components.
Prospective cadets should familiarize themselves with the Air Force Physical Fitness standards before arrival. A copy of the standards used by Detachment 175 can be found here.
