Jack Dwyer Hernandez

Born in Virginia Beach, Jack Dwyer Hernandez has lived a dynamic life of adventure all over the world. Growing up with an interest in music, he became a multi-instrumental performer, composer and producer, and completed his Bachelor’s degree in Commercial Music with two other degrees at Florida Atlantic University. Jack then joined the U.S. Marine Corps, served in Asia as an ordnance technician, and ultimately earned the rank of Sergeant with specialty training in a variety of subjects and skills. Traveling extensively across the region piqued his interest in anthropological work, which led him to complete his Master’s degree in Ethnomusicology at the University of London, School of Orient and African Studies. Expanding on his military training, Jack is also a licensed paramedic and has worked in the field of Emergency Medical Services in several states. Currently, he is completing a PhD at the University of Hawaii in Ethnomusicology, where he also serves as a graduate assistant for the department and manages the school’s world instrument collection.
