Overview:

Since its establishment in 2007, more than 2,000 students from around the world have participated in the SNU ISI (International Summer Institute) program to learn, experience, and enjoy an unforgettable summer of academics, activities, and long-lasting friendships. SNU ISI presents a unique opportunity for students to experience academic life at Seoul National University, Korea’s most prestigious university and one of the leading universities in the world. SNU ISI’s intensive six-week summer program taught by distinguished SNU and visiting faculty members offers its participants the chance to learn in depth from experts on Korea and East Asia, as well as a variety of of topics ranging from economics and business management to history, politics, sociology, and the arts. SNU ISI also provides courses on Korean language and traditional arts for students wishing to learn or advance their Korean language abilities while becoming immersed in Korea’s contemporary and traditional culture. (Source: Seoul National University Website)

Academic Details:

More than anything, SNU’s focus is to bring the highest quality of education that meets the Seoul National University standards and prestige. SNU ISI faculty comprises a dedicated team, mostly of SNU professors and selected distinguished visiting professors. SNU professors are the top experts in their respective fields, distinguished in both academics and professional careers outside of the university setting that enable them to bring new and fresh insights to the course. There are a variety of courses and academic fields from which to take classes. They all have a limited quota of 40 students, apart from Korean Arts (20) and Korean Language (limitless). All SNU ISI lectures are conducted in English.

Housing Details:

SNU ISI offers the option to stay at Seoul National University’s on-campus housing. Housing is not guaranteed for all students as there are limited spots available. Rooms will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis to students who complete the application and registration process including payment of program fees.

SNU’s dormitory is called Gwanak Residence Hall. There are two people per room and shared amenities. The roommate will be a randomly-chosen fellow SNU student. Students may not choose their rooomates, but those who are checking in at the same time may request to be roommates. The room amenities include a private washroom and shower, fully furnished beds, closets, desks/chairs, an air-conditioner, mini-refrigerator, separate bedding/pillows, and Internet access (Wired LAN connection; students should provide their own router for WIFI). The dormitory also has 2 laundry rooms (free washing/drying machines), and 1 common room per floor with microwave oven and a single-burner portable electric stove. Other facilities include a cafeteria, cafe, 24 hr convenience store, fully equipped common kitchen, fitness gym, restaurants, hair salon, laundry shop, sports fields, billiard hall, table tennis room, copy/print/stationary shop, parcel service, and ATMs. (Source: Seoul National University Website)

Eligibility:

  • Sophomore standing
  • 2.5 cumulative GPA
