Overview:

Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) was first established in 1937 as the Government Trade School and assumed full university status in 1994. Located in busy Hong Kong, students have endless opportunities to study, work, and explore. Hong Kong is regarded as an international hub of business, arts, culture and innovation, located on the doorstep of the Chinese Mainland and just a short distance from premier destinations in South East Asia. The university provides work-integrated education, service learning, and leadership programs to help facilitate student learning and job placement beyond the university. Hong Kong is also the 9th safest city in the world. Students can experience business, art, and innovation while eating culturally diverse foods, hiking in the surrounding areas, and exploring China.

The student population at PolyU is the largest among all publicly funded university in Hong Kong, with more than 28,000 students. The university is also host to a number of international students, with 330 international partner universities in 45 different countries, and over 700 inbound exchange students each year. The university offers classes in English, guaranteed accommodation, and academic and non-academic support for all of their exchange students. Academic Details:

English is the language of instruction (except language specific programs) and courses are offered via 6 faculties and 2 schools: Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Construction and Environment, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, School of Design, and School of Hotel and Tourism Management. PolyU also teaches Cantonese language courses for students who are interested in learning Cantonese.

The minimum study load is 9 credits, and the maximum is 18. Most subjects in PolyU carry 3 PolyU credits and are composed of 39 contact hours. At least 50% of your course load should be from your host department.

PolyU is ranked 106th in the QS World University Rankings 2018/19. 6 subjects ranked Top 50 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019:

Housing Details:

Exchange students are guaranteed accommodation at the PolyU Student Halls of Residence, in either single, twin-share, and triple-share rooms. There are fifteen different halls of residence, including one all-female dorm. There are also a number of off-campus housing options if students are interested.

The Halls of Residence contain a grand dining hall, a band room, fitness rooms, piano practice rooms, dance studios, activity rooms, a landscaped garden and a 25-meter swimming pool. All student rooms are equipped with Wifi, air-conditioners & furniture, with toilet and shower facilities.

Eligibility:

  • Completed at least three semesters of study upon admission to the host university
  • 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Currently open to TIM majors only
