Deakin University is a highly ranked, multi-award winning university with an international focus. It is ranked in the Top 1% of universities worldwide and it is also among the top 50 young universities in the world, according to QS and Times Higher Education. Deakin has 4 campuses that offer access to the natural wonders, coastal host spots, and cultural heart of the Australian state of Victoria: Melbourne Burwood, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Geelong Waterfront, and Warrnambool. Each location provides a unique study experience.

To orient students into the university and life in Australia, Deakin university has a Welcome Program where exchange and study abroad students will join Australian students on a two-day excursion before the start of the semester. During the program, students can participate in surfing lessons, hiking, bike-riding, and a tour of Victoria’s magnificent surf coast. During the program students will also attend information sessions in which they can learn more about settling into to uni life at Deakin.

Academic Details:

Deakin’s 4 academic faculties are Faculty of Arts and Education, Faculty of Business and Law, Faculty of Health, and Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Built Environment. Deakin is established as a leader in multiple fields of research, such as advanced materials, biotechnology, intelligent systems, natural resource management, and physical activity nutrition. They are ranked 3rd in the world for Sport Science (Shanghai Rankings), 24th in the world for Nursing (QS Rankings), and 30th in the world for Education (QS Rankings). Exchange students can study courses in programs such as Architecture, Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, Environment, Health, Information Technology, Law, Nursing & Midwifery, Psychology, Science, and Sport.

Housing Details:

Deakin offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit your needs. By providing on-campus living opportunities and resources for finding your own share house, Deakin strives to make you feel at home. In terms of on-campus accommodation, rooms are available in student residences at the Melbourne Burwood Campus, the Warrnambool Campus, and the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus. Each resident is housed in single room accommodation with internet access. Bedrooms are furnished, heated, and carpeted. There are shared bathrooms, kitchens, laundry, and recreational areas. The residences have a common room with meeting rooms, kitchen, television area, and a large open space for social events. The cost of on-campus accommodation varies on each campus depending on the type of accommodation and services provided.  If you study at the Melbourne Burwood Campus, there is greater availability than ever before, with an additional 500+ rooms recently opened. Students may also choose to arrange their own off-campus accommodation in private housing or in a home-stay with an Australian family.

Eligibility:

  • Open to undergraduate and graduate students in all majors.
  • Sophomore standing
  • Completed at least two semesters at UHM (variable for postgraduates)
  • 2.6 cumulative GPA
