Manoa Campus Plants

University of Hawaii Botany Department

PREFACE

This is a compilation mainly of plants found on the University of Hawaii-Manoa campus. It is excerpted from the course syllabus for Campus Plants (Botany 160) offered by the Botany Department. However, it may be useful to anyone with an interest in plants, and it should help to locate representative specimens of more than 300 species found on the campus. Some general information, family name, common name, genus, and species are provided for each plant included. One or more campus locations where each plant may be found are also included if available. One must keep in mind that the campus is always changing with new buildings replacing old plants. Herbaceous plants and smaller shrubs are particularly subject to displacement or loss. Illustrations are provided for many of the species and more will be added as they become available. Genera and species are listed alphabetically. The source of much of the general information is Neal (In Gardens of Hawaii, 1965). Don't forget, the search or find option of your web viewer will take you instantly to any scientific or common name in this index. You can then follow the link to the appropriate web page for more information and possibly illustrations pertaining to the plant being sought. The full-sized images linked to thumbnail images on the subsequent pages are nearly all in one of three formats: 600x400, 400x600, or 400x400 pixels. File sizes are mostly in the range of 50-250 kb (JPEG).

These materials are freely provided for instructional and educational purposes. Any duplication or publication of text or images herein for commercial gain without explicit written permission of the owner or photographer constitutes breach of trust and violation of copyright.
