
On Thursday, October 14th, Ka Huli Ao Center for Excellence in Native Hawaiian Law and the Environmental Law Program hosted their virtual Maoli Thursday entitled “Wai and Waiwai: Restorative Environmental Justice and the Future of Fresh Water.”
With over 60 participants, the lunchtime forum featured Professor Kamanamaikalani Beamer and Ka Huli Ao’s Post-J.D. Legal Fellow Uʻilani Tanigawa Lum ’19. The forum was also moderated by Post-J.D. Legal Fellows Luʻukia Nakanelua ’19 and Mahina Tuteur ’14. The panelists explored restorative environmental justice on the ground with a focus on the Environmental Law and Native Hawaiian Rights Clinics’ work with the Waiʻoli Valley Taro Hui. After fulfilling two full terms on the Commission of Water Resource Management, Professor Beamer also shared his experiences and vision for the future of wai. Mahalo nui to all those who attended!
