Preparing for Your Appointment
A little preparation goes a long way. Use this checklist before your advising appointment to make the most of your time with your advisor.
Before you meet with your advisor
-
1New incoming students should review both the Registration Checklist and the New Rainbow Warrior Checklist to ensure you are prepared to register for courses. Be sure to complete your health clearance requirement well in advance — students who have not satisfied this requirement will be unable to register for in-person courses.
-
2Complete the Advisee Information Form before your appointment so your EPA advisor can better understand your goals, interests, and any questions you may have. Please submit it at least 24 hours in advance.
Students are also encouraged to explore and understand their academic options, including majors, minors, and certificates, by using the EPA Major Exploration Guide before meeting with an advisor. -
3Prepare a list of questions, concerns, or topics you would like to discuss so you can make the most of your time.
Bringing a guest? If you would like a parent, family member, or another individual to attend your advising session, a Student Permission Form must be submitted in advance.
-
4While advising sessions will vary in length depending on the appointment purpose and the time needed to address your questions, students should plan for a maximum of 30 minutes. Please note that this time typically cannot be exceeded, as advisors hold back-to-back appointments.
If you feel you need more time or additional assistance, we are happy to have you schedule another appointment as soon as possible — your success is our priority.
-
5After your appointment, please take a moment to complete the short evaluation email you will receive. Your feedback directly helps us improve our advising services.
Meeting online?
For identification purposes, please have your UH ID# ready and be prepared to share information to verify your identity.
Log in to STAR GPS before your appointment and ensure you have a strong, stable internet connection.
If possible, meet via desktop or laptop so your advisor can share their screen and content remains clearly visible.
Please do not attend your advising appointment while driving a vehicle.
Meeting in person?
Exploratory Pathways Advising (EPA), formerly the Manoa Advising Center (MAC), is located at the Queen Liliʻuokalani Center for Student Services, Room 212 — the same space as the Manoa Career Center.
