New student success center planned for Sinclair Library

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa is planning to transform Sinclair Library into a student success center. Ideally located near Campus Center and the Warrior Recreation Center, the center will provide students with a convenient and comfortable place to study and collaborate that will also include on-site student support services and academic advising. UH is asking the state Legislature for $41 million to renovate Sinclair into a state-of-the-art center to improve the student experience.

In preparation for the project, Sinclair Library operations, both materials and staff, will be moving to Hamilton Library over the next 12 months. There will be no impact on building hours or 24 hours a day, five days a week usage. The Office of Undergraduate Education (student success, honors, etc.) and ITS (CLIC labs) will remain at Sinclair and will not be impacted by the move.

During the move, the library’s InterLibrary Loan (ILL) service will provide access to content as much as possible, however, some materials may be unavailable for a limited time.

The planned order of the moves:

  1. Music print collection will move from the 3rd floor of Sinclair to the 2nd floor of Hamilton.
  2. Audio-visual materials that circulate and reserve books will move from the Wong Audio-Visual Center (3rd floor of Sinclair) to the 1st floor of Hamilton Library.
  3. Stored materials in Sinclair basement will be reviewed and relocated to an appropriate place (to be determined) at Hamilton.
  4. Complete a review of serials on the 2nd floor of Sinclair against e-resources and databases. Relocation of remaining materials to be determined there.
  5. Staff moves will occur in conjunction with their duties and responsibilities.

More information, notices and updates will be posted on the library’s website and communicated to affected departments at https://manoa.hawaii.edu/library/.
