Holiday Gifts of Art in an Artist Archive

November 25, 2022-January 3, 2023
Location: Lobby Display
This display of Christmas cards represents a small sample of the treasures found in the Jean Charlot Collection on the 5th floor of Hamilton Library. Jean Charlot was a prolific artist and scholar. One of his many talents was printmaking. He created a limited edition print for his holiday cards to be exchanged with his many friends, beginning with the image of Santa Claus in Paris, in 1932. In exchange, he collected and preserved handmade cards from other artists. The cards are arranged with the first few created by Charlot; artists from around the world; artists in Mexico; photographers; and artists in Hawai‘i. Cards created by notable artists include Marc & Alice Davis, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Ansel Adams, and Meleanna Meyer. The exhibit was curated by Malia Van Heukelem with assistance from Jennifer Callejo, Ellen Chapman, and Kate Marsi. The poster was produced at Campus Graphics.
