Restored: Started in 1908
Originally constructed as a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu for the Khmer Empire, gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century.

BOROBUDUR
UNESCO World Heritage Site

Designated: 1991
Location: Magelang, INDONESIA
Built: 9 th C (Sailendra Dynasty)
Architect: Gunadharma
Restored: Started in 1911
World’s largest Mahayana Buddhist temple, decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha Statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa.
