J-1 Exchange Visitor Program Update – April 2022

On April 22, 2022, the U.S. Department of State (DOS) updated its “Exchange Visitor Program Information on Coronavirus (COVID-19),” extending the general COVID-19 accommodations through June 20, 2023.

A new FAQ was also included in this update allowing a limited hybrid telework option for a few exchange visitor (EV) categories. J-1 EVs in the Research Scholar, Short-Term Scholar, and University/College Student (Academic Training and Student Intern) categories are limited to “one to two telework days per week.” Fully or predominantly virtual exchange programs are not permitted.

Please make the necessary plans to have your J-1 EVs participating in-person at least 3-4 days a week starting May 2, 2022. If your J-1 EV is unable to meet the DOS’s limited hybrid telework option, please notify their FSIS International Scholar Specialist

Please contact your J-1 EV‘s FSIS International Scholar Specialist with any questions or concerns.
