The Diversification requirement is intended to assure that every student has a broad exposure to different domains of academic knowledge, while at the same time allowing flexibility for students with different goals and interests. Students are required to complete a total of 19 credits: 6 credits in arts, humanities, and literatures; 6 credits in social sciences; 3 credits in physical sciences; 3 credits in biological sciences; and 1 credit in laboratory science. UH Mānoa employs a variety of assessment approaches, including a 5-year review of all courses with diversification designations, faculty surveys, and student focus groups.
