A structured observation guide lists evaluation criteria in simple phrases for faculty to react to when evaluating student work. The structured observation guide allows the evaluation criteria to emerge completely from faculty experience and expertise, thus giving faculty a sense of autonomy and power in the assessment process. The facilitator will introduce the three-person interview technique to facilitate the collaborative creation of the guide. The participants will also learn collaborative rubric adaptation techniques. Adaptation acknowledges that faculty members don’t always need to re-invent the wheel. There are many well-established evaluation criteria in the form of rubrics that can be easily adapted to fit program-specific needs.
