Spring 2025 Election Timeline: Nominations to fill open senate seats to serve July 2024 – June 2026

    • April 9 – 23, 2025 by 4:30 pm: Self Nomination Period
      • Qualifications: To serve on the Mānoa Staff Senate (MSS), a member must hold a 1.0 full-time equivalency (FTE), Administrative, Professional and Technical (APT) position at UHM. It is recommended that senate members have 3 years of service at UHM. Additional information on the duties and responsibilities of senators can be found in the MSS Bylaws.
      • Candidate must nominate themselves in order to be listed on the ballot.
      • An email will be sent to full-time APT staff on April 9, 2025 with information on how to submit a self-nomination form.
    • May 7 – 14, 2025, Election process. Open seats become available to fill.
    • May 15, 2025, MSS Chair will notify newly elected senators by email.
    • May 16, 2025: Announcement of election results will be sent to APT staff + published on the MSS website

How do I serve on the Mānoa Staff Senate?

  • The next election occurs in Spring 2025. To be included in the election, a self-nomination form must be submitted.

When does the self-nomination form open and close?

  • Opens: April 9, 2025, 8:00 AM.
  • Closes: April 23, 2025, 4:30 PM.

How do I submit a self-nomination form?

  • An email will be sent to you on April 9, 2025 with more information on how to submit a self-nomination form.

Who can vote in the election?

  • UH Mānoa staff employed in an Administrative, Professional, Technical (APT) position with a minimum 0.5 FTE.

When does the election open and close?

  • Opens: May 7, 2025, 8:00 AM
  • Closes: May 14, 2025, 4:30 PM

How do I vote?

  •  An email will be sent to you on May 7, 2025 with information on how to vote.

How many seats are up for election?

  • For this Spring 2025 election, there are twelve (12) seats up for election. Seat terms will run from July 2025 – June 2027.

What happens if there is a tie?

  • Mānoa Staff Senate Election Committee (Senators who are not up for re-election) will vote to break any ties that occur.
  • Criteria used to break ties:
    • Diverse representation of UH Mānoa units
    • Years of service
