Aguon's eloquent writing underscores the importance of recognizing and rectifying the injustices that indigenous communities face, making a passionate plea for a brighter, more equitable future.

Joe Puna Balaz, born and raised in Wahiawa on the Joe Puna Balaz, born and raised in Wahiawa on the island of O‘ahu, is of Hawaiian, Slovakian, and Irish ancestry. He is the author of Pidgin Eye (2017) and other books of poetry in standard English and Pidgin, as well as the editor of Ho‘omanoa: An Anthology of Contemporary Hawaiian Literature. His writing, visual poetry, and artwork have been widely published nationally and internationally. Throughout his career, he has passionately advocated for Hawaiian and Pidgin literature. “Poetic Return” will theatrically showcase Balaz’s Pidgin poetry with music and visual art.
