Māhealani Ahia

Māhealani Ahia is a Kanaka ‘Ōiwi scholar, activist, songcatcher, and storykeeper with ancestral ties to Lāhaina, Maui. Her dissertation at UH Mānoa challenges the biographical genre by centering 16th-century akua moʻo Kihawahine, exploring mana wahine and decolonial storytelling. Her work bridges indigenous storytelling, feminist scholarship, and activism through academic and artistic practice including editorial leadership. She is a Henry Roe Cloud fellow at Yale.
