Dr. Genshitsu Senʻs Visit and Lecture at UHM

The UHM Center for Japanese Studies was honored to welcome back Dr. Genshitsu Sen for a lecture and reception at UH Mānoa on Monday, February 10, 2025 in the Loulu Conference Room at Bachman Hall, with nearly one hundred attendees at the lecture. Dr. Sen’s lecture highlighted self-care and peacefulness through taking time to reflect. With warm thanks to Ms. Akiko Ono Riley, faculty lecturer of ASAN 324 Chado Way of Tea Practicum and advisor of the UHM Way of Tea Club, the lecture was complemented with tea serving (teicha, 呈茶) by the Tea Club with refreshments of delicious sweets and matcha to event attendees.

Dr. Sen is an UHM visiting colleague and as part of his ongoing relationship with the University, Dr. Sen also gave a guest lecture in HIST 323 Way of Tea in Japanese History and Culture, taught by Dr. Nancy Stalker, Sōshitsu Sen XV Professor of Japanese History and Culture in the UHM Department of History.
