The Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) is a coordinating unit at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM), dedicated to fostering the study of Japan across academic disciplines. Our responsibilities include coordination and outreach, the dissemination of Japan-related academic opportunities, public seminars, administering travel awards and scholarships, and overseeing the Way of Tea Center. We are housed among other interdisciplinary area studies units within the School of Pacific & Asian Studies (SPAS) in the College of Arts, Languages, and Letters (CALL). SPAS supports faculty and student development, instruction, research and publication in Pacific and Asian Studies throughout UHM.

Tateuchi Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund
The UHM CJS is thrilled to announce that we have received a $3 million gift from the estate of the late Ina Goodwin Tateuchi of Seattle, Washington.
