Happy 90th Birthday to Emeritus Professor, Dr. Robert R. Locke

History wishes a warm Hauʻoli Lā Hānau to Dr. Robert Locke, professor emeritus and specialist in Modern European, German, and Comparative Business History. Now 90 years young, Dr. Locke has returned to Honolulu after living in Germany for some two decades. Holding a PhD from UCLA, his research spanned the French Third Republic (1870-1940) and the problem of monarchism, to studies of the German educational system, to research on the US, German, and Japanese business management.

In addition to serving as faculty at UH Mānoa for many years, Dr. Locke was also a two-time senior Fulbright Fellow, first at the Max Planck Institute for History, Göttingen in 1978; the second at the London School of Economics in 1986. He was also the Esso Chair at the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Managemen, Brussels, 1982-84, and was visiting professor at the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management and the University of Reading. He has continued to research and publish actively since retirement, with five new books and numerous articles since 1999 (see  bibliography below).
